TALKIES: Suckerpunch (Trailer)

Funny thing about this trailer is that I actually skipped over it several times due to Vanessa Hudgens involvement in the film, ha. I suppose my distaste for her is greater than my love for visionary genius that is Zack Snyder. But after nonsense like this, how could you blame me? Fortunately, last night I decided to check out the trailer for Mr. Snyder’s new flick and boy was I blown the F away! To say that Zack Snyder is an ambitious director is an understatement. Just see for yourselves…

P.S. I love how he always uses little known to unknown actors/actresses to play the leads in his films

NUTRITION: Vege Thai (Portland)

While visiting Portland a few weeks back, I ended up checking out this spot called ‘Vege Thai‘. When I say that I’ve never had vegetarian food this incredible outside of moms kitchen, I completely mean it. I grew up in a semi-vegetarian household so I’ve witnessed the evolution of meat substitutes first hand. Boy have they came a long way! I won’t say that they’ve succeeded in matching the taste and consistency perfectly, but they’re pretty damn close. In the above shot is the Soy Beef and Vegetable dish, delicious. I ended up playing it somewhat safe and ordering the Soy Chicken Fried Rice (below). Not only was the food incredibly flavorful, the price point is reasonable and the service was immaculate and timely. This place is highly recommended for anyone living in the Portland, OR area, or anyone visiting.

We’re fast approaching the monster month of September 2010. The month that Kanye West’s HIGHLY ANTICIPATED fifth studio album ‘Good Ass Job’ will be released, along with a slew of other major releases. As of yet, we’ve only heard the street single from the album ‘Power’ and a snippet of a joint featuring Rick Ross called ‘Monster’. In these clips, Kanye previews a few tracks from the album, albeit without the beat, for Facebook. From the sounds of it, Mr. West knows he has something to prove and is out to do it! I’m geeked for ‘Good Ass Job’, its been a long while coming! The songs are ‘“Lost in the World,” “Chain Heavy,” “Sweat on My Face”, and “Mama’s Boyfriend”. Check out more after the leap!

NUTRITION: Mac Bar (NYC)

Our last NYC food experience wasn’t too great. We ordered take out from terrible restaurants, had average burgers and even more average breakfast sandwiches. This time around we decided to step it up and ask ALL of our closest friends where the ill spots to eat in NYC are, Mac Bar was mentioned. Mac Bar is this little tiny restaurant in Soho that specializes in macaroni and cheese, and thats pretty much all they serve with the exception of beverages, cookies and chips (4 dollars a bag…and not even a big one).

They have a pretty decent menu and each flavor comes in 3 sizes. I ordered the Mac Lobsta’:

Tender chunks of fresh lobster, cognac, tarragon & mascarpone.

And Mario ordered the Mac Shroom.

Roasted mushrooms, fontina, mascarpone, truffled essence.

This spot is kinda incredible but the only thing you should be warned on is you really shouldn’t go on an empty stomach. We went on empty stomachs and ordered large….bad idea. I wouldn’t wish a macaroni and cheese itis on ANYONE.

VISUAL: Black Couple Gives Birth To White Baby

Here’s an interesting tidbit of news, I’ll leave it up to ya’ll to decide whether its legitimate or not. According to the BBC, and this video above, a Nigerian couple has recently given birth to a white baby, blonde hair, blue eyes. I’ve seen stories like this before, but I’ve always passed it off as “yeah, ok.” Well, the question is, what if this uncommon occurrence, becomes common? How will that affect racial relationships, racial classification, etc? Or maybe its just a hoax to incite racial unrest, stirring back up those conversations that kinda fell by the wayside after our Black president was elected. Whatever the case, here’s an excerpt from the BBC article below:

A white baby girl with a mop of blonde hair and blue eyes has been born to black parents living in London. How is this possible?

While there have been several cases of different coloured twins born to parents with mixed-race ancestry in recent years, Ben and Angela Ihegboro, who are originally from Nigeria, say they have no such origins which could explain the phenomenon that is their new daughter Nmachi.

In the case of Nmachi, there are three possible explanations of why she looks so very different from her older brother and sister, who are both black: dormant white genes which entered both of her parents’ families long ago, a genetic mutation unique to her, or albinism.

Contrary to reports, doctors at the London hospital where Nmachi was born say they have not ruled out this recessive disorder which affects skin pigmentation.
